Ethan Russo, MD, is a board-certified neurologist, a psychopharmacology researcher, and a Medical Director of PHYTECS. PHYTECS is a biotechnology company researching and developing innovative approaches targeting the human endocannabinoid system (“ECS”). The PHYTECS team pioneered scientific understanding of how the ECS regulates physiological functions including immunity, pain, inflammation, mood, emotion, learning, memory, metabolism, appetite, weight, sleep, embryo development, neuroprotection and stress responses.
From 2003-2014, he served as the Senior Medical Advisor and study physician to GW Pharmaceuticals for numerous Phase I-III clinical trials of Sativex® for alleviation of cancer pain unresponsive to optimized opioid treatment as well as the initial studies of Epidiolex® for intractable epilepsy.
Dr. Russo has served on numerous boards, councils and societies with the role of furthering the scientific, practical understanding, and uses of medical cannabis. He has also written and published numerous book chapters, and over forty articles in neurology, pain management, cannabis, and ethnobotany.
